چکیده
Despite its limitations, Prandtl’s mixing length model is widely applied in modelling turbulent free shear flows. extended addresses many of the shortfalls original model, but not so used, part due to additional mathematical complexities that arise derivation and implementation. Furthermore, both models, Prandtl neglects kinematic viscosity on basis it much smaller magnitude than viscosity. Recent work has shown including physical advantages. In present work, a novel provided, demonstrated similar advantages are again obtained when included. Additionally, through use scaling techniques, similarity mean velocity profiles derived, resulting single nonlinear ordinary differential equation solved numerically with Hermite spectral method. The computed for normalized stress compared experimental observations be excellent agreement.

Numerical Model of Far Turbulent Wake Behind Towed Body in Linearly Stratified Media
A flow that arises in a turbulent wake behind a body that moves in a stratified fluid is rather peculiar. With a relatively weak stratification a turbulent wake first develops essentially in the same way as in a homogeneous fluid and extends symmetrically. However, buoyancy forces oppose vertical turbulent diffusion. Therefore a wake has flattened form at large distances from the body and, fina...
متن کاملThe Stuart–Landau model applied to wake transition revisited
Following previous experimental and computational studies, this article further investigates the applicability of the Stuart– Landau equation to describe the Hopf bifurcation occurring for flow past a circular cylinder. It is shown that when the amplitude variable is taken as the transverse velocity component at a point in the wake, the so-called Landau constant varies considerably with positio...
متن کاملImperfect supercritical bifurcation in a three-dimensional turbulent wake.
The turbulent wake of a square-back body exhibits a strong bimodal behavior. The wake randomly undergoes symmetry-breaking reversals between two mirror asymmetric steady modes [reflectional symmetry-breaking (RSB) modes]. The characteristic time for reversals is about 2 or 3 orders of magnitude larger than the natural time for vortex shedding. Studying the effects of the proximity of a ground w...

Phase Transition in the Two Dimensional Classical XY Model
For the two dimensional classical XY model we present extensive high temperature -phase bulk data extracted based on a novel finite size scaling (FSS) Monte Carlo technique, along with FSS data near criticality. Our data verify that η = 1/4 sets in near criticality, and clarify the nature of correction to the leading scaling behavior. However, the result of standard FSS analysis near criticalit...
